Brian Serway

JOHNSON CITY, TN

Brian Serway uses watercolor and graphite to illustrate monochromatic fantasies inspired by the mystery, mysticism, and folklore of the Appalachian mountains. With stylistic details practically carved into (or out of) the negative space, his drawings traverse the page with momentous shifts of darkness and scale in relatively small and contained compositions.

Brian Serway is based in Johnson City, Tennessee and is primarily self taught. He is the owner and curator of HollerHouse, a gallery and retail space in Bristol, VA that is dedicated to the art and artists of Appalachia. Serway began showing with Arch Enemy Arts in 2020 after submitting to our Spotlight Showcase, his work has appeared in nearly twenty group exhibitions to-date, and he celebrated his third solo feature with the gallery in January 2025.
