Maryann Held

PHILADELPHIA, PA

Local painter Maryann Held delights the eye with carefully rendered animal subjects and vibrant floral patterns inspired by Pennsylvania Dutch folk art and ancient illuminated manuscripts. Her work is both decorative and devotional, a celebration of color, texture and depth that captures a playful, occult beauty in nature.

Held attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She worked as an in-house children’s book illustrator for many years before transitioning to her personal artistic practice full-time. Held has shown with Arch Enemy Arts since submitting to our 2020 Spotlight Showcase, and her work has appeared in group and solo exhibitions every year since, celebrating her fifth solo feature in January 2025.
