Arch Enemy Arts is thrilled to present MT. DUALITY, a powerfully vibrant series of original paintings by regional artist Doug Boehm. In this brand new solo feature, Boehm exhibits his exceptional sense of color and form through enigmatic and symmetrical landscapes.

 

Working in a style crafted over a period of 20 years, Boehm operates out of his studio in Bethlehem, PA. A lifelong Pennsylvanian, he studied at Northampton Community College, later going on to receive a BFA in graphic design from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Leading a storied career in illustration, Doug only recently began his adventure in painting landscapes as a central subject matter. In processing memories of his late father, who had greatly admired the outdoors, Boehm began to introduce brighter color palettes and naturalistic inspirations through bold compositions. 

 

Contemplative, stoic, yet magnificently vibrational and animated, the series examines various scenes in expressive colorways that pop conventional bubbles of figure, ground, and dimensionality. Supreme in his use of deliciously punchy contrast, Boehm allows his lakes and mountains to remain both playful and foreboding, carrying the viewer down whichever path the strong verticalities and emergent ranges inspire. Of his work’s abstract and pareidolic quality, the artist states:

 

“Based on the symmetry I know different people see and perceive these images differently. Some folks might see faces, hearts, robots, monsters, and others might see something completely different. The entire idea of seeing an amazing landscape in reality can conjure up different emotions on an individual basis. Some people feel small, scared, or insignificant while others might feel inspired, spiritual, or a sense of awe. Mountains are something to strive for and have the power to set the tone for an entire geographic region.”

 

MT. DUALITY is Doug Boehm’s first solo feature with Arch Enemy Arts, following his inclusion in multiple group shows with the gallery since 2020’s Spotlight Showcase.
